Hello, I went to Semlac in 1969 at the age of 18 to meet my father's
Haibach family. I was able to return there in 1973. To my knowledge,
none of the family members I met then still lives in Semlac. I
enjoyed seeing your pictures. Not too much has changed since 1973,
it seems.

In previous email I obviously have my great-grandmother,
Magdalena's, maiden name misspelled-it should be Pinzces.....I see
cousins on this email sign in list--I know Vicky Tindall---still
remember her as a baby! Her grandfather and my grandmother were
brother and sister! All those folks were the best! I also meant Hank
Keller(known as Butch) and his sister as a young girl and used to
see his dad and mom (to me Uncle Henry and Aunt Jessie Keller) on
their visits to New Jersey to see "Uncle" Henry's sister, Elisabeth
Keller Schilling, my dear great-Aunt Betty (married to my
grandmother's brother Nicholas). I also regularly saw Hank and
Susan's Grandmother Susannah Keller, since she lived with her
daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Nick Schilling near us---she was
"Aunt" Sue to me and I remember her crocheting---she made me a
lovely crocheted and starched Easter Basket once. I still remeber it
was green and yellow and very pretty . And I remeber Peter Born.
Those family ties surely did stay tightly bound. And it is
interesting how we all are meeting again here. A side note---my
uncle by marriage used to tease my grandmother and say she was
"Hungarian" but my grandmother always stressed she was German!! I
see how all the history works now. Very interesting.

Hello,
My name is Damir Groshin and I living in Banat, in village Melenci
but in a part of Vojvodina in Serbia. I am student of sociology of
University of Belgrade.
I do some studies about social history of Melenci in XVIII and XIX
century. And I must find many information of that.
Many ancestors of people of today of Melenci was came from Romania,
from place like is Nadlac, Arad, Semlac, Bogarosh,Canad, Shaitin
(sorry if I wrong wrote names of this places).
But, some historical studies say that they were Serbs. I think that
is wrong. I find that many of people of today who living in Melenci
have Ukrainian last name. Also, in Melenci have people who have last
name like Nadlacki, Bogaroshki, Semlecan, ect. They got this last
name as remember on places from where thay ancestors were came. I
have hypothesis that the ethnic structure of population in Melenci
were in this century compose of Romanian, Bulgarian, Macedonian,
Ukrainian, Germanian, Hungarian and also of Serbs. Serbs have been
much more.
In XVIII and XIX century was migration of Ukrainian and Ruthens in
Vojvodina, Croatia, Bosnia & Hercegovina. Today they also living in
Vojvodina, Croatia,…
But, that I mostly wont to prove is that mine ancestor was
Ukrainian. Old storry say that mine ancestors Groshin was came in
Melenci from old Russian town which name is Groshin, like my last
name, and that was Ukrainian.
In internet I find that this town realy exist in Poltava region in
the river Sula in Ukrain.
I have hypothesis that my ancestor came together whit people from
Nadlac, Semlac, Arad, ect. But must prove that.
Please, tell me, I must know because of my studies, have today in
Nadlac, or Arad, Semlac, ect. some Serb, or had ever in Semlac been
Serbs? Do you know something about that? Or, do you know, was before
one or to centory (or have today) some Ukrainian or Ruthens? If you
know, or if you can, try to find had ever in Arad region (or Semlac)
been Ukrainian or Ruthens, or migration of thay. Maybe, you know
some people, or professor of history in your school or college who
maybe know something about that.
Also, Have ever you hear about some place in Arad region which name
Grosh-noi, Grosha, or something like that?
Do you have in semlac last name like is Groshin, Bengin, cigulov,
Barabul, Rac, Dujin, Cirkov, Bibin, Pinger, Curganov, Kotroshan,
Sandin, Stojshin, Telecki, Shajka, Goloshin, Golushin, Gaborov,
Golubov, Cholak, Shaorka, grshin, selezan, Radak, Cvein, Murgul,
Ilisin, Shreta? If you have please told me which have and which
etnich they are. Or If you have some Serbs, please, tell me which
last name they have.
Thanks and forgive me if I disturb You.
Best regards,
Damir

Hello,
I have been resently looking for my roots, as I am now a proud papa.
This has led to many questions for my father. We have records and
letters showing that my family came from Semlac! Now our last name
is Unk, from what I have been told that was changed from Unc. What I
am tring to find is the root are we german, romanian, hungarian? The
family seems to insist we are romanian... I'm not so sure. If you
could shed some light on this I would be very thankful!

Thank you so very much, Rose Mary for putting together all of this
material and helping to keep it available for us and our children. I
had never been able to get my father to tell me much of his
background since he left Semlak with his parents and Sister when he
was 12 in 1926, but through your efforts and by accessing the
records in the Church's history, I can trace my Grandparents
Heinrich and Susannah Pinczes and my Great Grandparents and other
relatives like Peter, Nick, Adam and Fred Born to their European
origins. It has been wonderful to find this source and I am pleased
to be a "cousin" to you.
Very Best Wishes and continued success

I just stumbled upon a listing of the birth and death of (I think)
my great grandfather, Adam Beinschroth born in Semlak in 1857 and
who died there in 1891. He married Elizabeth Wagner in 1880. There
was no record of his children although I feel that they were my
grandfather Andrew and his sister, Elizabeth. I feel that you have
started me down the road "home". Thankyou.

Dear Rose Mary ! It is wonderful, that somebody of those in America,
who descends from Semlak, is showing so much interest for his
ancestors and the village they went from. I wish, many other people
will do this too, because:
„Who doesn’t know the history of his own people,
isn’t able to understand the present and to shape his future.”
I wish you much power to do this important work for a long time
forward. GOD bless you !
