Mercydorf Church Records - Update

2 Apr 2007 Mercydorf Church Records - Your help is needed...
Familienbuch Vol. I. 1735-1832/43 - coming soon!

Now is the time for all Mercydorf and Banat researchers to respond to a call for assistance (or any other interested parties).

The AKdFF researchers in Germany have obtained copies of the Mercydorf KBs (church records) covering the years 1832-1897 from the Romanian Archives; and expect to publish the Mercydorf Familienbuch Vol I. 1735-1832/43 by Edgar Aldag sometime in 2007.

The AVBF fronted the money to obtain the Mercydorf church records.

Richard Jäger, President of the AKdFF, is asking us to assist with the fund raising to reimburse the AVBF.  As the Mercydorf Coordinator, I am more than happy to promote this campaign.  It's not easy to obtain records from Romania and it is costly.  The village of Mercydorf was one of the first Banat Villages and a first home for many Banaters upon their arrival to Hungary.

I am appealing to all Mercydorf and Banat researchers (or anyone) to make a donation of any amount that you are comfortable with.  Please contact me (in private if you prefer) and I will provide the details.  I am hoping we North Americans can raise a sizable sum as an act of goodwill towards our fellow researchers in Germany, who are doing this for us.

Donations will be transmitted to Germany via a special account set up by Dave Dreyer for transferring funds to the AVBF for their family books; avoiding the hefty bank transfer fees.  The request for donations is strictly for ***recovering the cost of the church records*** this does not accrue toward book orders.

For future reference: The publication costs of the Mercydorf Familienbuch Vol I. 1735-1832/43 (which is now in manuscript form) will be covered by the AKdFF and will be recovered when the books are sold.  I can hardly wait!

Thank you all, I appreciate any support in this matter.

15 Apr 2010 - To be published soon:  The Family Book of the Roman-Catholic parish of Mercydorf, Banat, its affiliated parishes of Baratzhausen, Hodony and Zsadany, with entries from Neubeschenowa and Sankt Andres.

The book has 558 pages and lists 2982 families who lived in Mercydorf and its affiliated parishes from settlement in 1734 until 1843.  An index of the wives who married into the families, as well as a village index are included.  In addition, there is a history of Mercydorf at the beginning of the book, directions for use and greetings by HOG president Bianka Berger.  The price will depend on the number of advance orders and the print run, but will be less than 50 Euros.  The advance orders will determine the number of books printed.

Spring 2008 - The church records have been obtained and the Mercydorf Family book is underway!

8 May 2007 - The donation drive for the Mercydorf records was a success, collecting $1460!  This outstanding achievement was a cooperative effort among North American Donauschwaben: members of the DVHH-L, Mercydorf researcher private mail-list and Banat-L. The Mercydorf HOG association has been actively raising funds towards these efforts also. Together, I think we've accomplished the goal needed to obtain the church records. I'd especially like to thank Dave Dreyer for his role in collecting the funds.

27 Apr 2007 - Donations for the Mercydorf Records has ended. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the Mercydorf Familienbuch Vol II 1832-1897 of which the entries are being extracted by Karl Benz; no publication date is set yet.
