Aloysius Martin Thesz aka "Lou Thesz" from Modosch

Aloysius Martin Thesz was born 24 April 1916 in Banat, Michigan, to immigrant parents Martin Thesz from Modosch, in the Banat region of Hungary and Katherine (unk) b. 2 Sep 1892 in Hungary.  The family started in St. Louis Mo, where two daughters were born, Anna b. [abt. 1913] Mo., Helen b.[abt.1915] Mo. Then they moved to Holmes Township, Menominee, Michigan where Louis was b. 1916 Mi. and younger sister Emma b. [abt. 1918]. Sometime after Feb 1920 they moved back to Mo, where his parents would live the rest of their lives.

Martin married in 1913 to Katherine (unk) b. [abt 1893], in Hungary, imm 1906.  Children listed.

In St. Louis, Thesz started wrestling at age 8, using the name Lou Thesz.  Thesz wrestled his last match in Japan on 12/26/1990 at the age of 74, losing to Japanese superstar Masa Chono.  The Ring Chronicle honors the record-holding champion, statesman, teacher, and pro wrestling legend Lou Thesz with his deserved place in The Ring Chronicle's Hall of Fame.

His father's owned a shoe repair shop. His grandnephew attends an all boys private school - Chaminade, in St. Louis.  Lou, his wife, Charlie and their dog, Herr Schultz, left Chesapeake Bay for Winter Garden, Florida.  His wife went to work at the Peninsula Fine Arts Center, she retired 29 Jan 2000.  Lou Thesz died 28 April 2002 in Orlando, Fl.
