Destination: The Americas

Volunteer Archivist

Typical proposed format in building your Destination Page, covers a comprehensive range of topics to work:

1.   The location, brief history and description of the community and its most outstanding characteristics.

2.   What was there about the community that it attracted Danube Swabian immigrants to go there?

3.   When did they first arrive and if possible identify some of the individuals and families and where they came from.   How large a concentration of them settled there?   What were the early years like?

4.   What groups or organizations did they join or form?   Did they become members of specific parishes and congregations?   Did they tend to live in the same neighborhoods or sections of the community?

5.   What ongoing presence of the Danube Swabians continues to exist there to this day?   What local Danube Swabians and their descendants achieved some kind of prominence or importance in the life of the community or nation if any?

In addition, "sources" need to be provided.  If information and photos are found online or in books the archivist is responsible for providing the DVHH the following items . . .

- Title of publication
- Author / Photographer, if known
- Publisher and web link
- Contact person (for us to request permission to republish)
- All submittals for publication need to be in a word ".doc" - not .docx
- Preferred format for images is jpeg & size limitation is 600 pixels wide "or" 400 pixels wide; unless pre-approved for larger images.

NOTE: If an item is already published elsewhere, it does not require re-editing.

We emphasize to potential archivist that they should not give up if they cannot address ALL five points.  We also ask the archivist to provide, whenever possible: photographs, letters, documents, newspaper or calendar articles, and other graphics. These items contribute much to make the pages interesting.

All Destination pages are published by DVHH Administration, so there is no web experience necessary.
