The
"Schwäbische
Deutsche
Kulturbund"
Swabian-German
Cultural
Society
by
Hans
Kopp
As
a primary goal
and purpose, the
Cultural Society
sees the
education, the
development and
preservation of
the identity of
the Yugoslavia
Donauschwaben
expanding the
care of their
culture and
their German
nationality and
educational
institution,
such as
schools.
However, the
Cultural Society
was not only,
what the basic
outline of its
guidelines
directed.
According to its
concept, the
Cultural Society
was to pursue
additional far
perceived
comprehensive
tasks. During
these years the
thought
developed among
the minds of
certain German
intellectual
nationalities,
that the
development of a
German people’s
cultural
community in the
newly-formed
Yugoslavian
Kingdom should
be created
according to
their ideas,
without any
political
deviousness.
Hence, it was
necessary to
have an
organization
which could
promote the
German awareness
more easily, and
at the same time
bring the
Donauschwaben
minority in
Yugoslavia
together to
accomplish the
task of their
cultural,
educational and
economic
endeavors.
The
constitution of
the Cultural
Society were
approved on May
17th 1920
without any
difficulties
soon after of
their
presentation.
They were
modeled and
written after
the constitution
of the Sudeten-Germans
and after the
Serbian Cultural
Association
Prosveta, in
Bosnia and
Herzegovina,
prior to the
First World War.
