- After WW-II, the land was confiscated from the Donauschwaben. Some farmers leased land from the communist. To survive, they planted resources which could be sold to the public for currency. Tobacco and Paprika were the two main resources. The pepper was sold at the market in the city. Farmers who were unable to lease land, took advantage of their gardens. Pepper plants need lots of water, some did this manually. others watered the plants with water pumps or by horse power. A water well was dug into the ground to use the water. In this case, the horse was used. While the horse is going in a circle, it pumps the water into the large pipe. The water was directed into the pepper rows.
